I started in Kung Fu. Finished in Jujitsu. Studied Kyusho jitsu, Okinawan Kenpo as part of the mixed program at my last place. Spent a lot of time doing knife/ sword stuff. You know... Just a sampler platter.
        How about you?

Caught the bug at about 8, and at ten started in Karate, just a small dojo, moved onto some Kung-fu (tiger style believe it or not), then Isshin Ryu karate, then Tae kwon do. I wasn't a fan of the traditional stuff, because it was so static, and I couldn't understand why we didn't spar like we trained. I was basically searching for a "true" system or art. I stumbled onto Bruce Lee's philosophies of JKD (take what works) and finally ended up at a Pankration school, that taught boxing, muay thai, BBJ and wrestling.

Cool. The last place I was at had gone all gaga over Paul Vunaks Street JKD. It had some good stuff in it. I love Lyoto Machida's style. My stand up was of that nature.

I've heard that Vunak is quit the character. I've seen some of his videos, and talked to a guy that trained with him. This guy told me (I haven't verified the story) that Vunak went down to the Gracie dojo when they first came to the states to challenge them. One of the Gracies of course accepted and ended up with Vunak in a rear naked. He said that the Gracie was putting just enough pressure to make Vunak start to lose consciousness but would let up before he passed out, then he finally said... "this is how it feels before you die!" and put him out. Vunak then became a student of BJJ and added it to his repertoire.

I did alot of Tae Kwon Do and kick boxing many years ago but am to round in shape to get my legs past knee height.
My Son in Law is NZs top amature Super Heavy Weight boxer so help train him so Im counting that As a self defence tool.
Nothing better than avoiding getting hit by a 130kg Islander for practicing self defence.

                              Oh, martial arts

A couple of my Father's friends taught so I studied with them back in the early 1970s for a while but then I had to get a job since I wanted to buy a truck and get some quality time with the girls
