    Archery for kids:

    Sky

I'm wondering what you would recommend for a 13 year old girl (my niece) that is interested in starting.

I'd recommend a 4.5 foot long bow with a 24 inch pull and a 30 pound weight. Teach her primitive first and she can shoot anything.

If that's not possible, get her a sling shot. Once she masters how to use her eyes, get her a long bow

Any particular brands? Would you recommend the sling first, or can I get her the bow and arrows first? How long have you been shooting? Do you hunt, or just target? What got you interested?

My Dad taught me. I've been shooting since I could stand. He taught all of his daughters to hunt. I've hunted, I've killed with an arrow, and a stone.
I don't hunt now but I still shoot.

There's no particular brand, because it does not matter. Most of my bows are long bows and hand made for my frame.

Get her a sling shot first. It's easy to practice, teach her to trust her eyes.
Then get a bow, and remind her of the eyes.
        Simple
Oh, and stand like a bad ass, more powerful then your prey.

Thanks, I'm impressed. What does "stand like a bad ass" mean? I'm guessing a wide type stance... She's girl, but pretty tough too.

It means to stand tall, legs apart. Shoulders back, inhale, pull back on your bow with your arms strong and straight. Inhale, turn your neck to your bow, move at waist, follow your eyes.
