What's the Best Toilet Paper for SHTF?

I buy plain Scott toilet on sale in large packages.

I have some sheets, wash cloths and towels that could be used if needed.

You could buy baby cotton diapers or plain material like that and cut/sew them up to wash yourself with between your shower time. Depending on your shower if the poop hits the fan. NO pun intended on the SHTF.

Plain soap and water would work too. Air dry.

I like the soft, cushiony stuff. In a prolonged disaster, that might be important for morale.

It's going to be hard enuff to get by without the self-replenishing bowls of water. I can't imagine no charman.
The POM brand at sams club is the beast deal. 48 count case.

Charmin basic is more durable so it lasts longer. Nobody like a breach during the wipe.

However the cheap one ply has less fuzz and works great as a weapons cleaning material.

Two-ply burns longer than one-ply when used as a fire starting aid.

The more absorbent TP functions great as a wound management material but left on will adhere to the clot more readily than the cheaper stuff.

A standard roll flattened will fit inside a 1qt ziploc bag. A double roll will need a bigger bag. Absent a baggy, the cheaper stuff will still be usable after being soaked and dried.

Lastly is rectal recovery. Perhaps the most important factor I have found overseas was having the softer two ply. If you anticipate any bouts of diarrhea due to changes in diet or tainted food or water, the soft stuff like charmin is a must. absent that, frequent pooping and wiping with cheap paper will lead to severe chafing and subsequent itching or superficial wounds. In the event you are stuck using 1 ply, utilize a lubricating cream, powder, chapstick, or other agent to reduce irritation. This is all of course second hand to having a good supply of baby wipes in such case. Baby wipe and drink mix are hardship gold.

While using an alt on SB, I got into a discussion about stocking TP. I said that there is no point in stocking more than a week or two worth because in a major SHTF situation, it will be everywhere. Basically anywhere you go, there is TP. Doctor's office, grocery, gas station, strip club, car lot, town hall, schools, everywhere.

MikeK instantly started strutting around squaking about how any "serious prepper" knows why to have plenty of TP..blah blah blah.

I again talked about how it would be so easy to get after SHTF. Then he started asking if I was making my plans to be a raider. I am about 90% sure that tomboyy was part of that conversation too. Not one person in thread agreed with me. I found it humorous.


I have recently switched from Charmin basic to Scott Naturals tubeless. Won't ever go back to TP with a tube.

The tubes can be used to start seeds, or little improvised bullhorns.

Blue shop towels on a roll might be a better all around SHTF option, then trying to stick TP, napkins, towels, maxi pads, baby wipes....

You can wash and reuse them too.
