I've been raising chickens for around 5-years now, they hate me but I enjoy having them.

So far I have just been using them for egg production but I am considering getting a dozen to raise for meat. I found someone local that will slaughter and process them for $2 a chicken. Or I may do it myself but it might be easier, and a hell of a lot cleaner, to have someone else do it.

I'm actually going to just get rock hens in the spring and raise them separate of my egg flock for meat production. It tends to throw the flock off when something happens and chickens get culled.

I know it works. Works with geese really well also.
