    Precious Metals Thread

    Any numismatist or stackers?
Been a collector since I was kid. My uncle came back from vegas and gave me a handful of shiny Morgans, and I was hooked.
Barbers, standings liberties, fly eagles, you name it. Like an addiction.

Most "preppers" hold onto precious metals for when their fantasy shit hits the turbo fan happens, they can use it to pay a zombie who learned dentistry after eating the brain of a dentist.
I collect because I appreciate the detail and history of a coin. Ya, I'm a weird fuck.

Anyone else use money to buy money?

I tried my hand at metal detecting years ago. Couldn't stand the digging part of it. I had fantasies of finding beautiful coins. I even tried digging where there was once an outhouse on our property. The consistency of the dirt weirded me out so I stopped after a few tries.

I appreciate old coins but only have various wheat pennies.

My great uncle left all us kids a bag of money so "we would know what real money looks like." My bag has buffalo nickels, wheat pennies, real silver dimes, etc.

My grandpa gave me 3 beautiful "spooky" Walking Liberty silver dollars, 1920's. The fucking druggies who robbed my house got off with those. Fuckers

Is there something special about "spooky" ones?

They used the same walking liberty design on the obverse of the silver eagles.

Take a look at two morgan dollars. Both are 1878, from the philly mint, and in the basically the same condition.
What is different? One is worth twice as much as the other, if not a little bit more.

That eagle looks a little puny and sick. I'd say it's the little markings to the left of the wing on bottom coi.

Nope. Those are "bag marks" made when the coins were loosely banging into one another while inside a bank coin bag.
Look near the middle bottom part of the coins, below the claws and above the "D' in "dollar".
Both coins are near MS64 gem condition
The coin on top = about $1400.00
The coin on bottom = about $2800.00
The one on top was an error, but the coin on bottom is rarer.
