    Cost of Living

HeavyHauler mentioned how Canada pays more for food but doesn't pay for healthcare. Let's do some comparison of basic items just for fun.

Single, no kids and almost 22% of each paycheck is taken away for taxes. At the end of the year, I owe my state another 1%

One bedroom apartment, 700 square feet, decent neighborhood, decent schools, $925 a month, plus utilities

Hamburger (80/20, not the good stuff) is almost $5 a pound

    Electric .45 cents per kilowatt

I don't consider gasoline as an indicator as they're manipulating the cost of gas

My healthcare (such as it is) is paid for by my job so I can't add that in, except to say it costs my employer over $1,000 a month for me

Minimum wage here is $7.25 an hour

      I live in California.
      Everything is fucking expensive.
Over here we are all giddy because gasoline has dropped to $2.45 a gallon in some places.
      Oh happy day......

Gas is $1.40. I bought hamburger for $2.49 a pnd on sale last week. My rent is 575$ (I got lucky). I'm on my fellas health insurance and it costs 200$ a month or so (with a 2k deductible). Idk what percent I pay out in taxes. The burrito I'm getting ready to eat is going to cost me a million dollars because I want guacamole.
        What?

          Thanks Jenn

You must be at Chiptole -- home of the million dollar per tablespoon guacamole

Maybe 10% taken away each paycheck but I have 5 dependent children, which isn't usual. I believe for normal people the income tax rate starts at 15% and maxes out at 29% for those making 6 figures or more.

Just checked, the highest is 33% for earnings over 200K.

One bedroom apartment, 700 square feet, decent neighborhood, decent schools, $925 a month, plus utilities
House 1800 square feet. Mortgage is about $600/month. Houses and land are cheap in this part of the world. On our other coast people spend a couple of million to buy a house to tear down.

Hamburger (80/20, not the good stuff) is almost $5 a pound
Hamburger has really gone up here like everywhere. On sale $4 a pound, usually $6-$7/pound

                  Electric .45 cents per kilowatt
Wow. 15 cents per kWh average. Depends on time of day/time of year. Actually ranges from 8 cents to 19 cents.

I don't consider gasoline as an indicator as they're manipulating the cost of gas
Yeah, ours has a lot of tax. It's about $3.50/gallon

My healthcare (such as it is) is paid for by my job so I can't add that in, except to say it costs my employer over $1,000 a month for me
Health care isn't free here, we just don't pay at the hospital. Our provincial sales tax pays for it. So every purchase we make (except for grocery staples) has 10% sales tax added which goes to health care. Buy a tent for $200 and $20 goes to health care. Buy a soda for a dollar and ten cents goes to health care.

Minimum wage here is $7.25 an hour
                  $10.60/hour

Bear in mind also that a Canadian dollar is only worth 70 cents American.

Even then it was expensive. Exspesially for a e-5 with 4 youngins

Ate a ton of fish and white tip dove.

                    Lived in navy slums

Not as bad as decaf coffee.
What's the point in drinking it if it does not kick?
