    Gardening Tips

I use post hole diggers when planting transplants. I use old compound buckets for carrying and pouring composted manure and compost into, and around the holes. I put whatever else I'm using, epsom salts or bone meal, in the holes, and then mix it up with a spading fork. I plant each transplant and water each one immediately.
I like to plant in the late afternoon, so the transplants have an easy first day out of the midday sun.
    I don't know.

Yeah but the only shovel work you'll get out of em is up their nose.

the other trick is to put your plants in a bucket of water when planting.

I have done a lot of dry planting where you have tiny plants in 1 inch diameter root trainers, and you walk along and just heave your spade into the ground, pull, drop and go onto the next one.

If you have soaked all those little baby trees in a bucket of water, and you do this after rain when the land is moist, you can just chuck those babies in and that's it.

but they have to be fully soaked.

are you using a flat ended d-spade?

because shovels are for moving loose items around. Shovels are NOT for digging.

Spades are for digging. Nice sharp stainless steel spades.

If you're too weak for a real one, you could always use a border spade.
