Let’s be honest. Is there a use for the .40 short and weak?

This is not a 9mm vs. 40 cal vs .45 ACP thread

There’s a quite a few rimless semi auto cartridges available. What makes the 40 cal better than a 9mm or a .45 ACP?

its slightly bigger than a 9mm and most commercially available cartridges have some impressive FPS ballistics. But most 40 cal pistols have less magazine capacity than their 9mm pistols. It’s slightly smaller than 45 ACP but much faster then your run-of-the-mill .45 ACP but there’s some commercially available .45 ACP ammo that can get ballpark muzzle energy of a .357.

it would seem that .40 short ~n~weak is the best of both worlds between 9mm and .45 ACP

    But let’s be honest..

the 10MM Auto is making a comeback. Both Ruger and Springfield offer pistols chambered in 10MM auto nao and Glock makes a subcompact 10MM Auto in addition to their G20. Cuz I can’t remember what model the Glock 10MM sub compact is.

so doesl 40 cal still serve a bonifide purpose?

Assuming this is in non mag size restricted states

cuz I could see .40 cal being more beneficial than 9mm in <10 mag capacity states.

For cops, its lighter recoiling than 10mm and penetrates stuff like glass better.
