What is the definition of a snitch? Is there a certain class that perpetuates the aversion to the practice?
Would you report a crime? Is it tied to an abhorrence of authority?
Is the detestation of snitches an understandable reaction to an abusive system, or an effort of scumbags to protect themselves?

I suppose it's the situation where snitching is warranted. Would I snitch on a fellow employee who smokes dope on the job? No, but if said employee was making a bomb to blow up some innocent people.............yea, I'd snitch!

What if you wanted the company to prosper, for yourself, and the benefit of the owners and other employees? What if the dope smoking had a detrimental effect on the company? What if a high employee endangered lives? Or drove up the cost of workers comp insurance, costing you money? How would you feel if it was your company and you wanted your employees to work to the best of their abilities?

Would you protect those that make the country strong, or weak?

When I was in primary school, informing on others, including parents, was taught as something the commies cultivate and also the nazis. Snitches were a low form of life. Now they teach the children to be informers, especially on their parents.

Snitches are a more virulent form of nannies. It's part of what is ruining us.

I think the difference between a "snitch" and a "witness" is the motivation and consequence that they might bring to society.
One may have selfish goals, where the other may be more altruistic in nature.
All that said, I love me some sharp cheddar in the morning...
