Dang. I'd heard about the first and just checked the news about the second. I'm glad nobody was hurt in the first crash.

Back when I was recruiting in Arkansas, the Blue Angels performed at the LRAFB.

Back in them days a F-14 (love those fighters) is part of the opening show for the Angels. The pilot was from nearby Hot Springs, I was thinking his family and friends were there to watch, how neat is that.

Anyway, before he finished he had a failure with the breaks. Ut oh. They had one wire there (like on a carrier), and strung it across the runway.

Here he came........ boom! Caught the wire with his tail hook, but popped all his tires. Pretty intense for a while.

This will show my age, but when I was a little kid my uncle gave me a model kit of the Blue Angels, they were F4 Phantoms.

That was a while ago. The F-4s were still active on the older carriers for my first years in. Watched many off of the Coral Sea, since I was in its Battlegroup.

I was probably about 6. So around 1975.

It's a wonder they don't crash more often since they are using hand me down planes that have outlived their combat service life.
                  Screw diplomacy...........bring it!
