    The hard question....

So my wife is telling me that her coworker's teenage daughter was attacked last week. The guy tried to rape her. He punched her a couple times and slammed her head onto the concrete. She screamed and someone came running.

    So the specific events:

She was downtown in a bad neighborhood at 3am Sunday morning.

She stopped and got out of her car to ask directions.

The guy she asked directions from made an unprovoked attack on her.

This is the part where I pissed off my wife....

"What the hell was she doing in that neighborhood alone and walking around?

I know the girl is wild, so was she hooking? buying drugs? both?

If no one will ask the tough questions then I doubt we will ever find out the truth."

AAAAaaaaaand now my wife is mad.

A lot of times people are angry at something completely different than you are led to believe.
      I don't know.

You aren't wrong to ask the hard questions as long as you try to do so with just a little tact.

It's possible that you do many things that anger the people in your life.

It's that new politically correct never blame the victim thing. Like if I stagger down to the seedy part of town holding a wallet stuffed with bills, do I deserve to get robbed? No. But I sure as hell put myself into a dangerous station. And when I put myself into that situation I deserve the blame for that. That doesn't make the robbery right, it makes me foolishly careless about my own safety - and it shouldn't be wrong to point that out. You're not allowed to say that about women being assaulted though. You'll be crucified.

You don't have to yell. I'm just answering your question.

                    I didn't know you'd get emotional.

It sucks being female. Why can't we go someplace anytime we want to? Why can't I go shopping after dark by myself? Why can't I go to a midnight movie by myself? Why can't we ask for directions if we're lost? God know no man will stop and ask for directions 😄

Most of us are taught at an early age that we can't do this because we're women. We can't do it because some man could attack us. Then, of course, it's our fault because we aren't supposed to be out alone, after dark.

You our wanted to ask the hard questions, I've given you the hard facts in paragraph two

My stance would have been the same male or female. A teenager has no business alone in that part of town at 3am.

It is bad parenting and stupid to expect anything other than to be robbed or raped. I stand by my stance that she was probably buying drugs.
