Carrol O'Connor tried out for the role of the skipper but he wasn't temperamental enough.

All in the Family was much later than Gilligan. Oh, Carol Burnett is a classic. We got to see Tim Conway and Harvey Corman together in Vegas a few years ago and it was side splitting hilarious, especially when they ad-libbed stuff. It was a riot!
