    Game of Thrones

I'm doing a Game of Thrones rewatch to prep for the final season.
    **** SPOILERS TO FOLLOW ****
IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED THE SERIES/ READ THE BOOKS

    End-Game Theory:

So I've always been intrigued by the constant use of the term "Valar Marghulis" - translation: "All men must die." At first I thought it was equivalent to the Latin term, "momento mori" (remember that you must die). Then for a while, I thought it would be cool if the end-game were that the women ruled: Dany Targyrean on her dragons breathing fire on the ice wall, melting it into a huge tidal wave.. Maybe Arya by her side. Strong women.

But the more I re-watch this show, I think the phrase should be taken literally: All men MUST die. Humans do not belong in this world.

    Then who does?

My theory is that the White Walkers are the most deserving of the realm. They may even be the good guys.

The people in these kingdoms are deplorable: raping, murdering, flaying, beheading. Fighting over a throne of melted swords that, as Littlefinger pointed out, doesn't have the 1,000 swords as legend states. There's less than 200. Littlefinger goes on to say the realm is nothing but stories we tell each other until they're no longer a lie... they're like the 1,000 blades of the throne.

One of those stories handed down through the ages is that the White Walkers are evil. But who generated these stories? Were these tales told time and time again until they became truths?

Are the White Walkers any more evil than the humans? Both kill, both are battling for what they feel is their land by right. But whose land is it, really. Whose kingdom is it? The White Walkers have existed (sometimes sleeping under the ice) for ages. Maybe the kingdom is theirs. Maybe men forced them off their land and they want it back.

I was a huge fan of LOST. Things were not always as they seemed. Who you think are good guys were were actually bad, and visa versa. Same thing in many Twilight Zone episodes, huge fan of those. I loved the ones where the twist at the end makes you rethink what you just watched. When Ben from LOST said "We're the good guys", I was like - yeah, right. But the Others weren't the evil bunch as people were told. It was stories told time and again until they became truths.

So I'm rewatching the series with the thought that the humans are the scourge of the realm.

If I'm wrong, then my backup theory/hope for the series is that Dany & Jon Snow win - whatever winning looks like in the game, anyway.

    Gandalf.

    The answer is Gandalf.
A day may come when the courage of men fails, when we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship, but it is not this day. An hour of wolves and shattered shields, when the age of men comes crashing down! But it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear on this good Earth, I bid you stand, Men of the West!

There's a lot to it. Watching this second time around has helped. But even with probably missing things first time around, it's an incredible show.

Maybe the fact it's all ice and snow has something to do with why I can't get into it

Very true. When they say Winter Is Coming, I'm like "it's already here, bub!"

I'm reviving this thread since I've just started watching it. 8 episodes in and I'm figuring things out. I don't just sit in front of the tv watching this shit, I'm multitasking so it's takin some time to figger this stuff out. Anyway I have determined there is a couple of young boys who need to be bitch slapped to death for being such arrogant mama's boys. I mean seriously, on the tit at 10 years old???
Anyway I thoroughly enjoyed seeing the incestuall, arrogant, heir to throne cocksucker who gave away his sister to some barbarian king for his own ambitions, die from molten gold being poured on his head by the(now cool) barbarian king, because the king got tired of his shit, and of course sis loved it!
But alas it seems there are very few honorable people in the series so I guess backstabbing yur buddy is par for the course. Reminds me of that stupid "Survivor" series on tv! Seems the message is the only way to get ahead is to fuck yur buddy. Damn democrats!
                      Screw diplomacy...........bring it!

                        The answer is always Gandalf!

The books are the best, the show is pretty great.

It has all the things a man likes in a show; gold, fighting & killing, drinking, titties and dragons!

I like your theory Undie! Very well thought out!

I'm waiting for the last book!

Did you know they have a book out, about the culture/language of the Dothraki? I was gonna buy it from a bookstore in the states, but I wasn't able to. I can't remember the reason, I think they don't ship new books, just used ones.

Danielle really likes the show too, we watch it together.

Partners that watch GOT together, stay together. :P
