At least Mississippi has good sense!!

Thank goodness Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant signed the new law protecting religious beliefs and moral convictions. I know it was passed first in NC, maybe one day it will spread and keep certain groups from forcing you to violate your beliefs/practices in your private businesses.

Mississippi’s governor on Tuesday signed into law a bill that allows businesses to refuse services to gay couples based on religious objections.
This bill states that it protects “sincerely held religious beliefs or moral convictions,” including a belief that marriage is only between a man and a woman. It also says that a person’s gender is that “determined by anatomy and genetics at time of birth” and goes on to say that businesses can determine who is allowed to access bathrooms, dressing rooms and locker rooms.
Gov. Phil Bryant (R) said in a statement that he was signing the bill “to protect sincerely held religious beliefs and moral convictions,” arguing that the new legislation is meant to allow people to exercise their religious freedom.

Give a man a match, & he'll be warm for 20 seconds. But toss that man a white phosphorus grenade and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

I don't understand why it's such a big deal if someone wants to refuse service to a person for whatever reason. I'm not saying it's a smart business move, but you shouldn't be forced to serve someone if you really don't want to.

Or just ask them to leave and don't give the reason. That's what will get ya.
This sig didn't cost me any money.

Are you wanting to bring back segregation? I know what you are getting at and I agree as far as a Christian owned bakery refusing to bake a gay themed cake, but where is the line you draw?
      Screw diplomacy...........bring it!

There is no line. "right to refuse service" means exactly that.

and it has nothing to do with segregation. In a free market a business can cut off a group of customers if they like, but it is bad business and will keep them from growing to their potential.

besides........... I want the person preparing my food to want to be doing it, not to be doing it to avoid drama.

But that brings us right back to the 60's when blacks were not served at white owned establishments. I personally don't want to return to that era!

liberal fear mongering. I think it is way more likely a black only place will refuse to sell to me.

And if they do, then fuck them. I will take my business elsewhere.

Back in the day, you might have only had one gas station in the whole town so it really mattered. These days though, you could order 90% of items through amazon, and drive a couple miles to get whatever service you need.

The world is too developed for it to matter as much, AND the free market will sort it out. Assholes who chase away customers won't last.

Ummm, first I'm not a liberal.....far from it so don't go there, but I do believe in freedom...........to, yes refuse service to certain groups but a blanket refuse service to anyone just reeks of bigotry. No accusation, just a belief!

The case of the bakery that refused to provide the cake for the gay wedding last year was a separate issue as they had no problem serving anyone in their restaurant but didn't want to participate in the wedding itself which they were being asked to do by catering the cake.

I know it was a joke.

I simply dont think we are the same country we were back then.

And I also think a person should be free to suffer from their own biases. What I mean is, if a person is racist and in business, then it will hurt their business.

With the internet and a more connected market place, I think any issue like that would sort itself out.

As for the North Carolina bill I have seen so much misinformation and outright lies that it makes me wonder if there are any legitimate journalists left in the mainstream media.

I have bigger concerns myself than where other people put their penises and such like whether I'm going to make it to pisser in the middle of the night without falling and breaking a hip and having to lay in my own piss until help arrives but sharing bathrooms isn't such a good idea in my opinion.

Sounds fair to me. If someone doesn't want me in their business or on their property then I don't want to be there.

“This bill does not limit any constitutionally protected rights or actions of any citizens of this state under federal or state laws,” he said. Bryant added: “The legislation is designed in the most targeted manner possible to prevent government interference in the lives of the people from which all power to the state is derived.”

I think the law is a great idea. I like to know what businesses the bigots own so I can avoid dropping any money into their pockets.

Then it works out great. You don't want to go to their store and they don't have to make you a gay wedding cake. Everybody is happy and no one is forced to do something against their will.
