    Canada suicide emergency

Eleven members of an indigenous community in Canada attempt to take their own lives in one day in what PM Justin Trudeau describes as "heartbreaking".

An indigenous community in northern Canada has declared a state of emergency after 11 people attempted to take their own lives in one day.
The Attawapiskat First Nation in Ontario saw 28 suicide attempts in March and more than 100 since last September, Canadian media said, with one person reported to have died.
Over 100 tries and just 1 success? Apparently the emergency is that they don't know how to fucking commit suicide.

No, drunk is good, really good, if you're smart about it. Call the cops and say some drunk guy is threatening you with a gun. Then when the cops show up at your house stagger out and point your rifle at them. Easy as fuck. I should do an instructional youtube video or something.

Alaska has the highest per capita suicide rates in the nation. Some chalk it up to the natives response to culture shock, others to seasonal affective disorder. Me, I like to think of them as good Samaritans helping with population control. Now you run this past us and I see what good this could do for so much of America. I only hope it catches on,

Sometime in the last week I read (BBC maybe?) that SAD doesn't actually exist. Just whiny people being whiny and blaming it on the season instead of on themselves, because they're naturally whiny. I don't think the article phrased it quite like that though, but that was the gist.

Well, you know I didn't write it if "Oh, boo-hoo-hoo, aren't you a whiny little bitch didn't appear in there somewhere. I'm sensitive like that.

Kotzebue, AK, has a short bridge going from the cobbled together shacks they call a town and their water reservoir. A left-leaning cracker I know was telling me how the town average for suicides by hanging from the bridge was 11 a year, and that something should be done about it.

Honest truth, I took a sip of beer and said Yeah, build a longer bridge.

It was CBC I read it, apparently SAD does not exist

                      http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/north/...rder-1.3515040

"There was very little research at that time, but yet the DSM authors, I suppose, thought there was enough evidence to attach the diagnostic modifier of seasonal variation to the diagnosis of major depression based on what they found in respect to SAD."
SAD has attracted cultural and research attention for more than 30 years.
Every year, people around the world spend money on products and treatments to try to combat the winter blues, and specialists tout the benefits of things like full spectrum lights and bright light therapy.
'I'm not saying people don't get depressed in winter' - Prof. Steven LoBello, study co-author
But for LoBello, those ideas are more likely a product of folk psychology, rather than the fruit of objective data.
It's not a psychiatric disorder it's people preferring green grass to ice. Move if you can't deal with a little winter.
