union fights are the bomb
I was driven to a site to work where a union strike was going on. (I wasn't a scab, just there with the lawyers to type contract revisions). The strikers didn't know who we were and almost turned our car overTuesday is soylent green day

Now some are still decent. Mine is small and exists only to fight for our guys in a specific industry. There is no big money leadership getting rich off of the lower ranks.
I am the local chair, and I have told my guys that the union doesn't exist to force management to do things our way. We don't exist to get out of doing our job. At it's core, the union exists to negotiate the contract, and to make sure that our "management" doesn't violate the contract, or their own policies. (which they do at will. the good old boy network is still trying to run the show)
I have been part of several fights that really protected a person from being ran over by management doing the wrong thing.
So I think there is still good to be found in unions, but not in the big national ones. like anything else once it gets too big...... corruption and bloat!

LOL Our place has a history of guys trying to use the union without respecting the chain of command or following the procedure. They stabbed the local supervisors in the back and are shocked when things only got worse.
I actually told them NOT to make me the rep. I told them that they would not like it. Because I would MAKE them follow policy and procedure, and chain of command for ANY union complaints they wanted to make.
I argued not to be the rep. They voted unanimously for me to do it. Since I took it, things have gone really well. We have only had to fight a few times, and have done well because we had our ducks in a row. The local management is starting to trust us because they know we will follow protocol and not try to get them in trouble without following chain of command and such.
